STAGE  SHOW  . . .  ’ The  Harder  They  Come ‘

. . . Should have you dancing in the aisles ! !

Our roving crew member took extra shore leave to visit the Nottingham Playhouse to see the stage show of the 1970′s cult film ‘The Harder They Come’, which starred Jimmy Cliff and was inspired by the real-life story of Ivanhoe Martin, a legendary Jamaican outlaw of the 1940′s.

The Harder The Come is a tale about a country boy who sets off for the bright lights of Kingston, Jamaica in the hope of becoming a reggae star, and includes the hit songs ‘You Can Get It If You Really Want’, ‘Many Rivers To Cross’, ‘Higher And Higher’, ‘Rivers Of Babylon’ and ‘The Harder They Come’.

The show needs only one word to describe it – Brilliant. Everyone had a great time, the cast were fantastic and every member of the audience was on their feet dancing during the encore.

Now on national tour from London’s West End, venues include: Birmingham Hippodrome, West Yorkshire Playhouse, the Northampton Derngate amd Cardiff New Theatre.

A show definitely worth seeing.

LATEST  NEWS  FEATURE . . . . .  IAN  HUNTER  ( Mott the Hoople) ,

Does small pre TOUR GIG . . .   RIPAL ‘ on-the-spot ‘  report . . .

Our intrepid crew member has been out and about again in Leicester.  The venue was The Musician pub, which holds about 200 people, where rock legend and ex-Mott The Hoople frontman Ian Hunter, along with his backing band, played the warm-up gig for his national tour.

The set opened with Once Bitten Twice Shy, and included the hits Roll Away The Stone and All The Way From Memphis. They also played the title track from his great new album Man Overboard, along with Flowers and The Great Escape and Lou Reed’s Sweet Jane.

Ian sang and played the keyboards for Bernstein and Sondheim’s Somewhere from West Side Story which went down really well, and he and the band were joined by his daughter Tracie on backing vocals for the closing number, All The Young Dudes.

It was a fantastic evening, Ian Hunter was in fine form – he’s still got that great voice, the band were brilliant, and if you’re lucky enough to have a ticket for the tour you’re in for a real treat.
