WE don’t as policy follow many folk on TWITTER , otherwise
our ‘page’ gets clogged with all sorts of unrelated ‘stuff’ !
WE DO however follow PALOMA FAITH who we all here, think
is a breath of fresh air in the music business . She makes us
smile a lot ! ! , with her philosophical thoughts on life and
her quirky observations !

A BIG THANK YOU to all those of you who have written
in to give us your views . . . I would like to say that we do take note
of your thoughts , but sometimes we are under pressure to be able to
keep the web site up to scratch ! . . . We do this site purely for anybody
who cares to read it . At the moment the ‘ Micro Pod ‘ Studio is working
flat out and giving us little time to keep pace with changes we need to
make here ! We will be , however, selling a few silly items , like
RIPAL mugs and ’T’ shirts and if you like some music we produce,
you can buy that as well . . . ! !
Some pages are under construction at the moment . . . that is
why some things don’t make sense . . . We are trying to get all this
ironed out as soon as possible . Keep the comments coming !

ARE THESE ’SO CALLED ‘ TALANT COMPETITIONS Just
one big money making scam ? ? ?
It seems shameful that the outer edge of the Music industry
is scamming the young hopefuls by offering them pretty
mundane contracts that mean very little when to be fair,
the entrants themselves have virtually no experience in this
cut throat business . We entered a talent competition just recently
cost about £10.00 per entrant , we won’t say how many we placed
in this farce , but just let’s say our average time to put over to
‘ Judges ‘ what we had been preparing for a few days . .. WAS . .
48 seconds ! !
Then the NEXT shock ! The Entrants were given the result of their
effort after 20 minutes . ”. . . No , not this time , . . . But try again
in the summer when the next one will be held . . . . ” were the replies.
We will be entering the next one to see if there has been any
noticeable improvements . . . I think we will be visiting the next
public show to see how the successful ones get on . . .

Comment on the Eurovision Song Fiasco !
Well what a VERY different take on what used to be just a Lo-Fi load of poor quality
program making. It seems to have turned into something representing more glitz and
fireworks than an Olympic opening ceremony . . . in fact the songs now seem to take a
back seat . Even Graham Norton seemed to be lost for words and that is a tad unusual.
How long before it buries itself deep amongst the continuous storms of ticker tape . . .
maybe that represented the unfortunate volcanic dust clouds . . . and the outlandish
fashionable outfits ? How strange it is , that beyond a relatively small stretch of water
ideas can become so alienated from our own , about something that we were masters
at . . . once upon a time . . . the good old sing -a- long POP SONG . . . Where did we
come this year ? . . . and as for GERMANY ! . . .

and the way he sprawled out when being interviewed on a tv
program like some big super star , what arrogance , like his comment
about Louis Walsh not knowing what he was talking about !

It seems Simon Cowell is getting set to rule the Planet , in the POP department , anyway .
I believe he is thinking of taking the show to America (again) , but this time to set up headquarters in Las Vegas
and put on continuous shows on the ‘ Pay to View ‘ system . It sounds like the death of X Factor to me . . .
but not before time . . the acts are definitely getting weaker each year and seem to be getting
that little more processed and soul less .
It’s about time the Public told him what to do with his X Factor
. . . Simon . . . it’s getting BORING !
REMEMBER . . . There are many positive
things written about the MUSIC industry
in the CAPTAIN’S LOGS , where you will find
comments on the real heros of the music business . . .

I am absolutely perplexed . . . Why do people advertising themselves as singers
and potential front men or women for bands or other musical projects put themselves
up on public notice boards WITH OUT a picture of themselves OR an audio clip ! ! !

TUNITED . . . Midge Ure’s answer to save the Songwriters and up
and coming new Artist and Performers within the music business.
It is with a certain sadness, that I have to report that TUNITED has been
wound up . Right from the start RIPAL had reservations that this idea was
somewhat flawed and when it started, asked permission to perform an
experiment to see for ourselves how this could possibly work .
Needless to say, from an early start , we found more than a few weaknesses
in this well meaning system.
Tragically, there were certain characters that emerged who took what was
offered by the neck and put a lot of effort into trying to make this ailing
music utility work. One particular young lady I hope will go on to greater
things as she, besides her piano playing , deserved to get more out of this
site for the amount of time and effort she put in . . . maybe she should try
the dreaded X Factor . . . If you can’t beat ‘em . . . ( Ummmmm !) .
