The CAPTAIN is pleased to announce that the LOG is finally open

and extends a very warm welcome to all those who wish to take a peek .

I have been busy enjoying myself recently having sneaked ashore while Mrs C .

wasn’t looking and taking in some of our well known local bands who have appeared in

Plymouth. All very exciting for the Captain …. revisiting my youth, and whetting my appetite for

some more good live music.

At great personal risk to myself, I will be seeking further late passes to visit those many

places, where live entertainment is the order of the day, and reporting back my findings to you.

Looking forward to meeting up with and talking to Joker, Joey The Lips, Those Diamond Geezers

and my latest find The Needletones.

Keep an eye out for my regular gig and band guide . If you have a gig to promote,

or an open mic night, let me know and I’ll see if I can get along , or you can send me

your own review and we’ll share it with the crew.

Remember , we are always on the look out for new talent , so if you would like to send us an mp3

or a web site we can check out , please go to the ‘ Contact us ‘ page .

So there you go , all aboard whose coming aboard ……. it’s going to be an exciting journey!

signing off for now . . . The Captain . . .

L O G No. 2

Dec ( 01 ) 2009

Well Mrs C left the door open again, so Captain Junior and I slipped out, and headed off at a trot to the Pavilions in Plymouth to take in a show and oh boy what a show !

Jools Holland and His Rhythm & Blues Band had hit town……..

Opening for Mr Holland was KRIS BUCKLE, who sang and accompanied himself on guitar.

Then at 8.20pm Mr Holland strode onto the stage and proceeded to bring the house down, with his blend of as it says on his tin Rhythm and Blues…

he was joined by that great singer RUBY TURNER who had the audience on their feet… GREAT!

But you could have blown me down with a feather when JOOLS HOLLAND welcomed onto stage a real hero of guitar and vocals DAVE EDMUNDS who then opened his set with his number one hit record “ I Hear You Knocking ” ,

What a treat , vocals still as good as ever DAVE EDMUNDS left the crowd baying for more , finishing his set with Sabre Dance another hit record from his days with LOVE SCULPTURE.

Not only a great rocker but also produced top hits for acts such as DION , EVERLY BROTHERS , DEL SHANNON , STATUS QUO , SHAKIN’ STEPHENS and the STRAY CATS .

As I am now a fully functioning member of society having embraced technology , I will be following all these acts via Twitter why don’t you look up Capnripal . RIPAL records is also twittering go on have a look ,

Busy time of year with lots of bands playing , so I’m looking forward to reporting back soon with more reviews. Next week I’ll l be nipping off to see GARY MULLENS in ONE NIGHT OF QUEEN , saw his show last year and I thought it was great .

The following week , just in time for Christmas , I’ll be casting an eye over HOLLY at CHRISTMAS, a tribute band to BUDDY HOLLY.

Well I’m off out again so if you do spot me you’ll know me by my very special ’ T ’ shirt bearing its unique and distinctive RIPAL RECORDS© logo so give me a wave . . . . talking of special I also recently took them in , and they were special too ! Followed closely by those nutty boys from MADNESS but more from them later ! ) .

Going to go and stand outside a JOEY and the LIPS gig ‘ cos guess who forgot to get a ticket ! Oh well there’s always next time . . . . .

The Captain . . . signing off

LOG No. 3

Dec (02) 2009

Hello again. One of the crew had a few days shore leave recently and they managed to visit a couple of venues in the Midlands. The first was The Robin 2 in Bilston, Wolverhampton to see the legendary Peter Green (the original guitarist and founder member of Fleetwood Mac).

The gig was great. Peter Green was on form with his old pink Stratocaster and Epiphone Granada guitars, and his band were excellent, especially Mike Dodd on rhythm guitar and vocals. The songs they performed included Oh Well, Sweet Marie, At The Dark End Of The Street, Black Magic Woman and of course, Albatross.
Definitley worth catching if you get the chance.

The second venue wasThe Y Theatre in Leicester to see Roger Chapman (ex- frontman of Family) and his band The Short List. Chappo has still got that fantastic voice, and Helen Hardy on backing vocals was great. And of course, their set included My Friend The Sun and Burlesque. Another gig worth getting along to see .

Signing off until the next time ,

LOG No . 4

Jan ( 01 ) 2010

Well that’s the end of another busy old year, however

lots of new and exciting things to look forward to…….

I’ll be getting around seeing as many live shows as I can

and reporting back to you on my experiences.

I will finally be catching up with and interviewing those

celebrated local groups, plus I have a couple of lovely

Surprises in store.

I’m still looking for those elusive vocalists, so if you feel

you fit the bill get those recordings off post haste to

info@ripal.co.uk . . . go to ‘CONTACT US ‘ page and click link .

So will sign off now by wishing you all a very happy

and productive New Year

The Captain
